ufb_perspective1ufb_perspective2ufb_perspective23The Urban Food Bowl (UFB) is a modular raised garden system that aims to promote food gardening in the city. It also demonstrates that there doesn’t always need to be a delineation between productive and ornamental gardening. Edible gardens can be beautifully designed and ornamental in nature.

Key features of the design include:

  • Modular construction with limited site excavation necessary
  • Innovative wicking systems that waters plants from beneath – perfect for Melbourne’s dry summers
  • A focus on productive plants including, vegetables, herbs and fruit trees using companion planting principles
  • Fits within three metres square

The main parameter of the brief was the intervention had to fit within 27 cubic metre and located in front of the Sidney Myer Asia Centre at the University of Melbourne.
